Yankees-Blue Jays

The Yankees turn around after a night game with a 1:05 start, so some of the stars--Jeter, A-Rod, Abreu, Giambi--will rest.  Kennedy and Joba will go today, as will Nuke LaFarnsworth.  Hopefully the kids will sharpen things up.   Betemit's playing first, getting regular time to jump-start his slow Spring.  I'm going to try to catch the first few innings, especially to focus on Kennedy and Joba.  Enjoy the game, everyone.

As per Pete Abraham, here is the lineup and a few of the pitchers who will go today.

Lineup

Damon LF
Cabrera CF
Cano 2B
Matsui DH
Duncan RF
Betemit 1B
Ransom SS
Molina C
Green 3B

Pitching
Kennedy
Chamberlain

good, i'll drop in as well. it's so much easier when the game is on TV and the laptop is free for blogging.

red so make it official- Colon to minor league camp...

I can't blame them. The productive part of his career is likely over, and the Yankees may have put the final nail in. Fitting.

so laptops will have to start for them...or they will have to get another starter

Even before the travails with Schilling, Beckett's back, and now Bart the Colon, I though the Red Sox would be hard pressed to repeat. It's a tough thing to do, and depends so much on steady pitching. The Sox have talent in Lester and Buchholz, but they don't have fewer questions than the Yankees with young pitchers needing to go, injuries, etc. Combined with the trip to Japan, this will be interesting to see unfold.

gammons just said that cano is the only regular guy under 30 on the yanks...

hello melky? duncan even...

I was thinking the same thing, Mike. Good point.

Lead-off walk for Damon.

Melky promptly hits into a 6-4-3 DP.

did melky have to swing at the first pitch?

cano isn't exactly the most patient guy in town for the 3 hole.

He did, Mike. #2 hitters for the Yankees have to sign a waiver before the game ensuring one hasty at-bat each game.

No, Cano sure isn't Mike. It's part of what prevents him from being in the top part of the lineup. Good 6 or 7 hole hitter, but he still lacks patience.

as michael kay would say, they must have early dinner reservations...

Kennedy outside with the fastball 1-0, nice tailing fastball 1-1, double to right, but great relay from Duncan and Cano to third.

nice throw by shelley

Shelley deserves time to play. There's Cano, who's bound to be the greatest second baseman of all-time...

certainly the best Francona's ever seen..

Kennedy left up the 2-2 pitch to Wells.

I love hyperbole.

i wish they'd just SHUT UP about the "incident"

great curve from Kennedy.

Nice curve 0-1 to Rolen, another for 1-2, can of corn to Shelley, three down, a decent first for Kennedy.

you know we had best prepare for some games that ian gets really roughed up. i'm not worried about phil

It sure is getting old. The thing that kills me, and hasn't been discussed enough, is how stupid Johnson was for his diving into Cervelli. if he slid, he would have been safe. He made himself out.

I think so, with the kids. It just happens, and has with even the greats. Doc Gooden was a very rare exception.

Bloop single for Shelley. The kid has to play.

Meacham over reaching again? i think so. shelley had to gut that out

Nice job from Betemit. It sure is too bad he just can't produce. Now Ransom scores Betemit, 2-0 Yankees.

Thank goodness Shelley has speed to burn.

ranson may well make the team as the utility guy

He's played fairly well, though he's had a few errors. Ensberg will make the team because of his (righty) bat, not much else.

That is, if he makes the team, it will be because of his bat.

i'm still counting that as a demerit by meacham. it's not like there were two out at the time.
shouldn't that be taken into account?!

We're in agreement on that, Mike. I was just making as crack about Shelley's wheels. Meacham is going to keep raising eyebrows.

excellent inning from Ike!!

Kennedy is looking good against what is basically the Jays' Opening Day lineup.

oh i just noticed your political sites, i'll have to check them out. do you ever read the Huffington Post?

I do, I like the variety of pundits they have. I'm also keen on DailyKos and Glenn Greenwald, especially Greenwald.

nice to see robbie doing some stealing this spring

Cano doesn't run enough, which is a shame. That will likely change this year under Girardi, who has had quite a good Spring himself. I like what Girardi has done with the team.

ohhhh he almost had that one!

oh he didn't get it. YO Mama!

Shelley involved in scoring again.

well seeing betemit actually take a walk warms the cockles of my heart...

ransom should have just crushed that hanger...

Sorry about the fade out, Mike. I literally just got my cable and Internet service back. It was mistakenly tagged with a disconnect tag on the transformer box behind the house. That's what I get for paying my bills on time.

i thought maybe you thought i was being too hard on Ransom :)

That too, Mike. Don't ever mess with the kid again. I'll sign off for FOUR hours next time. :-)>
