Opening Day HDLR: Jays Versus Yankees

Hi Everyone, and welcome to the Opening Day Heartland Digital Living Room, where the hot dogs are always fresh, the beverages are always cold, and the chatter is always lively.  Today is at long last Opening Day, so the games finally count, and we can assess and enjoy the team.  Roy Halliday goes for the Blue Jays against Chien-Ming Wang in a battle of very good righties.  Drop by, enjoy the game, and have fun.  Mike will be at The Stadium to bring back a "W" and may provide updates as the game progresses.  I unfortunately will not be here today.  I have to teach until 2 EDT, and my son then has a dental appointment, at which the dentist will perform a "baby root canal," the unfortunate result of his grinding his teeth at night.  I'll need to be there for him, so I won't watch the opener until quite later tonight, with a recap to follow late.  Yet feel free to drop in the HDLR and have a blast.

Let's Go, Yankees!

Thanks for commenting on my initial postings! I hope your son's dentist appt turns out well. My 3 year old also had a check up today but didn't go through anything other than a quick cleaning. You may not miss the game as we are all waiting for it to start. I live about 20 miles from the stadium and it still is wet. I'm not sure how much longer they will wait it out! Disappointing but hate to have a start with many stops.

You missed nothing, Jason. Rainout. They will try to open the season tomorrow evening at 7:05 p.m.

Where I live, in Eastern PA, it's been miserable all day. It's supposed to be lousy tomorrow also. I wouldn't guarantee tomorrow night's game gets played.

Feel sorry for Mike. Nothing today, and tomorrow night is iffy.

Hey, Jason!

Well, I guess this was a great day for dentists, as I also had a dental appointment today [along with your son, and the son of "forloveofthegame - as noted in comment above]...At least some scheduled events were completed today, as the Yankees "Opening Day" was rained out, and re-scheduled for tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m....

It started raining here in the Bronx at about 10:40 a.m. [just as I was in the middle of writing my Blog Post]...From that point on, there was a light rain and steady mist up to the time the game was cancelled at about 2:30 p.m... It's about 3:30 p.m. [as I'm writing this comment], and the rain has stopped! But, it was a good idea to not take any chances that would have risked injuries to players - playing on a wet field....

Also, the Yankees have a "Welcome Home" party scheduled for tonight in Manhattan; so, that is probably the reason the opener was re-scheduled as a 7:05 p.m. night game tomorrow....Too bad, because the weather forecast calls for a very nice 65 degrees tomorrow. It would be a perfect day for a ball game. But, with the Yankees party tonight, the extra rest will be needed, and the players will have to trade playing under the warm sun, for a much colder night game!...Anyway, I'll watch the Mets game with Johan Santana starting vs. the Marlins at 4:00 p.m....The forecast in Miami is "Mostly Sunny", 77 degrees, and only a 20% chance of rain!....For me, it's another visit to the dentist tomorrow morning at 11:30 a.m....And, then, enjoy hopefully a great spring day as I look forward to Opening Day...well, now, Opening Night, tomorrow at 7 pm !!!...

Take care, Jason; and, I hope your son is feeling well !!!....

Go Yankees!!!........[ Jimmy27 NYY ]

I get that impression about today, hearing that the worst of the rain would come later today with more tomorrow. I can't stand interrupted starts, either. We've actually had a lot of rain here in the Midwest as well--just one of those days nationally.

My son came through the appointment very well. He's quite brave.

Hi, forloveofthegame, welcome aboard. Forgive me for asking, but I don't recognize the game or the e-mail address that I get sent whenever people comment. Are you new to the blog, or do you have a new name under the new MLBlogs format? Either way, welcome aboard, if you're new welcome to The Heartland, and please come back anytime. I'm sorry to hear about your son needing to go to the dentist, but going early and often is a good thing for kids to get used to. My son hates the cleaning instruments as much as anything at the dentist. He hung in there very well today despite some extended work--better than I would have at that age. Your comment about the Bronx weather is interesting in dialogue with Mike's on the latest post. He went to the game and said it didn't actually rain at the Stadium, just misted and wasn't bad. I really don't know either way, i heard very little as I was in and out of the house this afternoon. Come back anytime, forloveofthegame.

Jimmy, thanks for the well wishes. I got the impression that it was wet, though I didn't hear how hard it was raining or for how long earlier, since I was in and out. Mike, who was at the Stadium, said it was just misting and not actually raining. I'm sorry for your own dental work, but I hope it goes as smoothly as my son's did. He was a trooper.

Let's hope tomorrow's game can be played.
