HDLR Spring Training Special

As per request, the HDLR is open for business today.  According to Pete Abraham, Igawa has been scratched for unknown reasons, and Albaladejo will start in his place.  Below, as per Pete Abe, are the lineups:

YANKEES
Damon CF
Jeter SS
Abreu RF
Rodriguez 3B
Giambi DH
Posada C
Matsui LF
Cano 2B
Duncan 1B

Pitching
Albaladejo
Hawkins
Chamberlain
Farnsworth

BLUE JAYS
Eckstein SS
Rios RF
Wells CF
Rolen 3B
Thomas DH
Hill 2B
Stewart LF
Scutaro 1B
Barajas C

Pitching
Wells (Randy, not David)
Camp
Parrish
Gosling

The Yankees are fielding a regular-season lineup today, with Matsui in for Melky and Duncan in.  I will be back shortly, before game time.

[Update:  According to Pete Abe, Igawa isn't injured.  The Yankees wanted to see the relievers pitch with a threat of rain in Florida, so presumably they didn't want to truncate Igawa's start.  As Abraham said, "Shows you what they think of him."  Indeed, and I feel the same way about him.]

checking in.

I am also in. How are you today, Mike?

doing very well. sorry to hear that the rumors of igawa's depature were premature

in better news, i'm going to new york next weekend. i don't really have any realistic hopes to attend opening day, but since i already have two tickets for the 5th i'll try to go to at least one of the toronto games...i guess it will depend on who we have pitching.

That's outstanding, Mike. You'll have a blast. I was sorry to hear Igawa wasn't being packed into a crate as well. Oh well.

whenever i see scutaro now i can only think of his flukish homer off of mo early last year.

opie throws out first pitch

Ron Howard is in the crowd wearing Yankees garb. Apparently he's a huge Yanks fan. I knew I always like that Richie Cunningham.

Same here, Mike. Bleeping Scutaro.

if you were me, would you skip seeing moose?

Single over Jeter's reach, not a bad piece of hitting by Eckstein.

he'll always be Opie to me...

eckstein will be good for them

That's a good question, Mike. Moose's outings are toss-ups these days. But I have a good feeling about him, and if it were me and I had the chance to go, I'd go.

jeter off to a great start this year

Of course, it's not my coin...

Jeter's error on a DP ball costly all around, giving Eckstein third and Rios second. Ouch.

5-3 chopper gives Jays 1-0 lead.

i just hope andy's back thing is not a big deal

Good point by Singleton about Duncan's costly throw, screwing up the DP scenario. He made a surprisingly bad throw to third, too.

cut him from the team

Same here, Mike. He's had a tough Spring, physically and otherwise.

There I go again--AGREEING.

Wow, horrible play by Duncan on that attempted basket catch, 2-0 Jays. He definitely took his eye off it.

kenny also giving advice about where the parents should sit .

shelley looking terrible today

I agree, parents should be on the plate side to protect kids. That Singleton, always thinking.

64 MPH change up...pretty good off of 89 FB

big hurt dashing to first base

Heck of a play by A-Rod just to snare that. Giambi is doing the right thing, going to the mound to settle down Albaladejo. He's had some hard luck this inning.

great start for Alby!

Hill seems to kill the Yankees, 3-0 Jays.

it will be 16-0 by the end of the inning

Bloop into right from Stewart makes it 5-0. Ouch. Albaladejo isn't exactly getting pounded, but the score says otherwise.

here comes scooter...another homer probably

That's just two touchdowns, Mike. Hand it off to Shelley and wear down that defense.

maybe they can keep this half inning going till the rain ends the game...and just as i type that kenny says the same thing :)

SCOOTIE!!!

Stinking Scutaro! 6-0 Jays.

That's it, Mike. I'm firing off an e-mail to YES about Singleton's shameless plagiarism. I've had it!

Hi, guys. Just popped in to say a quick hello. Sounds like the game is starting off smoothly (lol). Jason, you are so right about Hill. He is a Yankee killer. I will never forgive him for stealing home on Andy last year, even though it was a great play. Have fun.

lets hope patterson looks good here

Albaladejo out. Today should be a lesson to him not to let bad breaks get to him. Plus, the Jays are just hot today, it seems.

please do that jason; they have been ignoring my missives for years!

hey there dianna!

Hilarious response from the Yankees crowd on the second out. Nice job by Patterson getting the pop-up.

Hey Dianna. How's it going?

the old bronx cheer

he's not 5' 9"...

no more than 5 ' 7" same as pedroia...not that i care...i think he's a helluva playa.

( would the boss object to "helluva" )?

He is, the kid can hustle.

jason i'll be looking forward to your appearance on "Centerstage"

and please...go easy on michael kay...

LOL, I'll try to be polite for a change.

jeter swinging at the first pitch again....

Good thing Jeter tried to be patient after a long top of the first.

shouldn't the guy in the 2 hole take a pitch or two?

It's really raining now. You and Singleton might get your wish.

this game is not long for this world...

They do have to sign the impatient waiver where they must swing at the first pitch, and with this rain, Jeter probably figured he'd get it out of the way.

well even if the game ends now, it's been one of the most enjoyable sports events i've watched in years.

certainly more exciting than the super bowl this year

I wonder how many people are cursing under their breath at Abreu for taking that walk.

Opie has left the building!

Thanks for your support, Opie, you fair weather fan. I'm through with him.

A-Rod's batting average has dropped below .500. the season is over...

i'm sure Floyd or Aunt Bee would have stuck it out

5-4 force ends the inning.

Just wait for all the A-Rod haters to crawl out of the woodwork now.

can you blame them?

Nuke is in. The comeback is on.

ok farnsy in to HBP all of their ineup

break 9 fore arms and be done with the blue jays for the season

I can't, Mike. A-Rod is clearly failing the franchise.

Now Nuke slipped on the mound, getting Girardi concerned that he might still be well enough to pitch.

i think pavano is the only guy tough enough to face these weather conditions.

lets face facts, he's the only "true yankee" left on the team

Mike, I've noticed a vengeful streak in you lately. Maddon, the Jays.

LOL, Mike. I think I see Pavano's Porsche hydro-planing onto the field now...

i'm a distant relative of maddon...and **** cheney...i can't help it

Nuke gets the first out. Sign him to an extension.

Ah, internecine conflict. Careful, as "The Daily Show" reminds us, Cheney's got a gun.

good idea J, give him the same deal as a-rod

As I spoke, Nuke allowed a double to Wells. I just can't put so much pressure on the guy. He's sensitive.

after you signed him to that 10 year deal he got soft.

it seemed like a good idea at the time. maybe we over-reached...

Now a BB to Rolen. Maybe if I send him a text message now touting his hefty extension, it will encourage him.

It worked. F9 for Thomas. Nuke's back. I think I should add deferred cash for life to the contract. Nuke's a "true Yankee" as well.

Shelley with the diving catch! Like Lynn Swann.

perhaps the rumors that he actually wanted a 20 year contract were true

shelley duncan ; the greatest left fielder fierman has ever seen

Mike, you're on fire today.

Duncan looked like a dolphin diving for a fish. I think he wanted to catch it with his mouth.

Opie's in the booth, saying his son is a "Yankee fanatic." Great parenting.

so now Opie does a "hillary" and claims to be a fan of two teams...

Jorge scalded one foul, the best hit ball the Yanks have had thus far.

They just called the game. Perhaps our long, national nightmare is over.

are your kids being raised as labor union fanatics?

singing "look for the union label" round the piano...

it was a heck of a show...i can't imagine why CBS hasn't replaced john and suzy with us....

i was kidding of course...

They're showing Yogi's "Yankeeography"--Yogiography.

i love giuliani's comb-over...

Not quite fanatics, but we try to instill certain values--solidarity, looking out for fellow human beings and the environment, the inherent evil of employers--you know, the basics.

"One a teacher asked Yogi, 'Don't you even know anything?' Yogi responded, 'No, I dodn't even suspect anything.'" Priceless, classic Yogi.

with the exception of walmart, of course.
if only all institutions and employers would look to them for guidance, the country would be far better off.

that's the best Yogi-ism ever

There's no question, Mike. Wal-Mart is the epitome of munificence. Their kindness knows no bounds, just ask the workers whose overtime they stole, the overseas workers in sweatshops who toil for 2/3 of the day for a pittance, and the small businesses they run out of towns.

just looked what happened to Mayberry when wal-mart came in...

Hooterville was never the same either. i'll never forget the sad look on sam drucker's face when he had to close the store

Mike, that's hilarious. You're killing me.

Man, things are so boring here at The Heartland.

you know who i wish we could get in here for a game or two? raoul the red sox guy from BPS ( and joe's uncle) he's hilarious...

Raoul seems like a real character. I wouldn't mind that at all. I have to say that Dan from "Fans on the Field," and his brother Jason, seem to have terrific sense of humor too.

and speaking of over the top, there is a frequent guest on fan club radio named josh "the truth " imboden. you gotta hear him rant about the team sometime...

i have never been to fans on the field...

il check it out

The Yankees game is officially rained out. The Jays never scored six runs, Nuke never faltered, Albaladejo never wilted, Jeter and Shelley didn't struggle in the field. I just dreamed it up.

Thank goodness Igawa didn't pitch today and have his prodigious skills wasted.

I've heard of Josh, and heard he's quite a character.

all is can say is Yogi was right. he WAS out.

and so am i...i'm gonna go eat something.talk to u later

fun day today...thanks

Same here, Mike. I'm going to run some errands. Thanks for stopping by.

I love Robinson, but he was OUT.

Well I see the three-man lovefest is still going strong, or is the sicko Jason still talking to himself. What a retard!!!!!!

nkaeding, don't post your homophobia and hate speech here, ever. Having worked with developmentally disabled people before, I can safely say that they're smarter and more sensitive than you'll ever be. I'm genuinely sorry that your life is so bereft that you feel the need to troll websites that decent, intelligent baseball fans frequent, and post your hate speech.

Good-bye, and good riddance.

three man? can't you even count you cretin?

there were two of us here. F OFF

Mike, we need to understand that nkaeding was probably seeing double for one of us after all those PBR cans. It takes a lot of cheap beer to work up the nerve to stagger someplace and splatter pathetically stupid hate speech like a monkey flinging manure in a cage.
